- The ratios of aberrant embryos and adults were tested for variation among families within each cross with χ2 test for homogeneity (χ2 HOM with d.f. = Nfam - 1). When ratios were not significantly different across families, the numbers of progeny were pooled and tested against the expected ratios with χ2 goodness-of-fit test (χ2 GF with d.f. = 1). Otherwise, the ratios were tested against the expected values in each family separately (d.f. = 1; see "Different BE phenotypes and variation in lethality of underlying alleles" section). Standard deviation (SD) and P values (P) are given in square brackets.
