Both PPO3 and PPO2 contribute to melanization around a wasp capsule. Representative photos showing infested larvae containing eggs from a Leptopilina boulardi parasitoid wasp. Larvae mutant for PPO3 ¹ or PPO1 ^Δ ,2 ^Δ show a melanized egg. No melanized capsule was found in PPO2 ^Δ ,3 ¹ and PPO1 ^Δ ,2 ^Δ ,3 ¹ infested mutant larvae. The presence of a non-melanized egg in PPO2 ^Δ ,3 ¹ and PPO1 ^Δ ,2 ^Δ ,3 ¹ mutant larvae was confirmed by subsequent dissection. Arrows indicate the position of the melanized wasp egg
