Both PPO3 and PPO2 contribute to melanization around a wasp capsule. Representative photos showing infested larvae containing eggs from a Leptopilina boulardi parasitoid wasp. Larvae mutant for PPO3 1 or PPO1 Δ ,2 Δ show a melanized egg. No melanized capsule was found in PPO2 Δ ,3 1 and PPO1 Δ ,2 Δ ,3 1 infested mutant larvae. The presence of a non-melanized egg in PPO2 Δ ,3 1 and PPO1 Δ ,2 Δ ,3 1 mutant larvae was confirmed by subsequent dissection. Arrows indicate the position of the melanized wasp egg
