The graphs represent the base pairs occupied by a given TE superfamily (y axis) in the different genomes analyzed, binned according to K2P distances to their corresponding consensus sequence (x axis, K2P distance from 0 to 5%). We considered copies in the divergence bins < 5% as recent TEs, likely corresponding to copies of recently active elements. Plots showing all divergence bins (K2P distance from 0 to 50%) are shown in Additional file 2: Figure S2
