Only three genes with novel gene functions in Tribolium had no ortholog in Drosophila (yellow). About two-thirds of genes with novel function had previous phenotypic annotations in FlyBase but relating to other biological processes (blue). Importantly, for one third of those genes, we had detected the first phenotype in any insect (green). We added this novel information to the GO database
