Random slicing into the cell cortex ('minceration') facilitates the integration of a large fusion mass. (a) A graft of six whole stentors fused together, minced, plus an implanted oral apparatus. (b) After two days, four small oral primordia were formed at irregular sites. (c) By the sixth day, the fusion mass reconstituted a doublet with normal oral structures and a cell shape resembling that of a normal single cell. From Figure 12 of [120].
