An interesting overview but surely one of the most outstanding examples of "biophysics" must be Hodgkin - Huxley's studies that unravelled the ionic basis of the action potenntial. I know that this is usually thought of as being "physiology" really it is pure physics when you look at their achievments.
Similarly the developments in modern electrophysiology by Neher, Sakmann et al. have allowed us to explain many biological events in physical terms.
