Acetyltransferase acts in trans to provide activated substrates to acyl carrier protein (ACP) with extensions and modifications by optional domains, terminating with hydrolysis by thioesterase. The adenylation domain activates the amino acyl substrate and bridges intermediate products, acting as a mediator.
